This evening we went out to drop in on some folks who we don't have phone numbers for. The first family was answered by one of the children and we asked for mom or dad; mom came to the door along with the children and among them was a young girl, probably 10 years old or so, who had a great big smile on her face recognizing that we were from the church; mom said we don't really want to go to church any more, we are checking out other churches. The poor little girl who was smiling so beautifully all of a sudden had the biggest disappointed look. We asked if there was anything we could do to help and then bore her a brief testimony that we know the Gospel is true and that is why we are there. We left them with appropriate pleasantries and was on our way. Then we drove to another home and introduced ourselves to a lady whose husband just deployed to Greece. She is not a member, but we wanted to make her aware that we were there to serve and help in anyway that we can. We obtained her phone number and asked if were alright that we call periodically to check in on her. She said that would be fine.
This morning we found a couple of our new troops. We talked to one just as he was getting in the morning formation and then the second one we spoke to on the phone. We had some other nice visits with those who we never see at church.
Elder Gowans worked all afternoon on lessons for the Institute class for the month of December. We will be studying some church history prior to diving into the Doctrine and Covenants.
