As of this morning, Elder Gowans still had not yet completed the Institute lesson to his satisfaction; he knew there were still problems with the draft outline and that the lesson just hadn't come together yet. The Spirit hadn't given His approval yet. After getting up, he left for the little apartment gym and as he was getting his exercise on the stationary bike, he pondered upon the principles of the lesson. He began to have impressions and pretty soon the impressions began to gel into concrete ideas. After the gym and after showering, he sat at the computer and began to put the ideas down and by the end of the morning he had a real good lesson plan outlined. Now he just needed to go over it with Sister Gowans and practice, practice, practice. That is just what he did. During the afternoon, he went over it about 4 times to ensure that he would be ready to present it to the group.
The lesson centered around Disciplinary Counsels and how they have been established to offer those who have strayed away, a way back to full fellowship and get back on track to inherit the great blessings that God has offered the faithful. We discussed punishments and how there is no law without a punishment affixed. We discussed how punishments are meant to inspire repentance, correct and motivate people back onto the straight and narrow. The lesson went real well, we had a good group of soldiers who came out.
